Im cheating...I did two TILTs this week and in this one I used my own photos. But I have a good reason. Today is Candices 18th birthday! You see her in my photos every week but you really dont know how amazing she is. When she was little everyone use to say she was an old soul because she was very calm and not at all ...frivilous. That totally changed when she was about 12. Now shes silly and playful and WEIRD! In 8th grade she was studying citizenship and decided it was unfair that she was automatically a US citizen when others have to test for it...so she renounced her US citizenship and made me draft a test for her to take. In the interim she claimed she was Candinese. Luckily, she passed the test and is now a fully licensed US citizen. For three years she went to private schools in Louisiana...to this day she refuses to wear khaki. She only wear Princess perfumes by Vera Wang because shes declared herself a princess. As soon as she learned to walk she started walking on pointe. She did it for so long...barefoot...that she damaged her foot and had to have surgey in October. She has a 12 point inspection process when shes shopping for jeans. If the jeans dont meet all 12 criteria...she wont buy them. She hates needles. The last time she got an injection the lab tech made her sit in the lab until she was done crying and had fixed her face so she wouldnt scare the kids in the lobby...and that was after her sister and I literally held her down to get the shot. And...she asked for a tattoo for her birthday. She walks into walls..in her own room...and accuses us of moving them. Shes basically the most awesome girl ever.

This was our boat on our Lough Derg/Shannon River holiday. Its a 6-8 berth, easy to handle, fully equipped with Life-Jackets, bedding and in the galley. There are three showers and toilets with holding tanks. Inside and outside steering. We got a good deal from Emerald Star. Picked up the boat at Portumna, Co. Galway, there are other pick-up points, you can do a one way cruise or return. Its very relaxing, fresh air galore, lots of wildlife all around, fabulous landscape. Quite a few years ago, when I was a purple belt, I was visiting Mark Miller’s dojo. Mr. Miller is a former full-contact fighter and one of the best fighting instructor’s I’ve ever had the honor of working under. As we bowed out of class (a very hard workout, as usual) he said something that didn’t really make much impression on me, but as I’ve progressed in the ranks it has come to mean more and more to me. This (as near as I can remember) is what he said: “When you bow to me you are doing it out of respect. You are showing respect to my belt and position as instructor. But notice that I am bowing back to you as well. I also bow out of respect. My respect for you is even more deeply seated, because I have been in the position that you are in right now. I’ve been an under belt. I’ve fought through those tests. I’ve learned those katas and broken those boards. I know what it takes. And I respect you for staying with it and getting to the point you are at today.” This is Eric. Eric is a green (mid-level) belt at our dojo. He is about 13. Eric works extremely hard. He fights hard, and if he gets hit hard or knocked down, he’s right back up and ready for more. I’ve always told my siblings that when fighting in the dojo, even if you’re holding your head from falling off your shoulders, you turn to the judge and say, “I’m fine!” and get ready to fight again. Eric embodies that attitude as well. He doesn’t quit. He has that unquenchable spirit that a true martial artist possesses. Behind him you can see the face of Mimi. Mimi is a middle aged woman who is not physically strong or impressive. When she steps into the ring for a fight you almost want to laugh. There is just no way she could be a threat. But once the fight starts it’s a whole different story! Mimi is one of the smartest fighters in our dojo. She leaves it all in the ring, every single time. And she blows people out of the water. She fights smart, comes in fast and hits hard. I pity the fool who doesn’t show respect to her in the ring…because she is coming and if you aren’t ready, you’re going to get steam rolled. Mimi was the outstanding competitor at a recent tournament. When Mr. H gave her the trophy he told a story about the time he was at the hombo dojo (our home dojo). Mimi walked up to him, and with no introduction, said, “I will get my black belt!” I could go on and on about other people at our dojo. Dale. Lance. Tom. Chaney. Will. Larry. Anna. Joshua. Amazing people, incredible martial artists. The higher I advance in rank, the more respect I have for those below me. Now I know what a tough fight it is, and I can see that they are doing an amazing job of it.

We seemed to have tired of watching stories about long ago times when men were men and did what they had to do, while the women looked on anxiously and Americas indigenous peoples either cowered in their teepees or gave the settlers, male and female, an extremely close haircut. Television had declared the Western to be a dead duck. Times, though, may be a-changing again because it has seen the emergence of a new kind of Western, one which shoots straight from the hip and talks dirty Its called Deadwood and previewed first on Sky, the satellite station. Its bound to make the terrestrial transition soon and, who knows, it could be the show that pulls the trigger which fires the Western firmly back into the publics affection. The gun-slinging shows which became cult favourites down the decades, and where better to start than with two childrens cowboy adventures which served to whet the appetite for shows which would come later. Song Rawhide made a habit of singing some great Western themes. He was the warbler behind Champion The Wonder Horse and he worked wonders, too, for Rawhide with lyrics which went: Rollin rollin rollin Though the streams are swollen Keep them doggies rollin, Rawhide Through rain and wind and weather Hell bent for leather Wishing my gal was by my side All those things Im missing Good loving and kissin Are waiting at the end of my ride There was much more to this 1959 show than a song, of course. It was all about man against the elements - and evil - as cattle movers such as trail scout Pete Nolan, the cantankerous Wishbone, Ramrod Rowdy Yates, good-natured Mushy, and trail boss Gil Favor head them up and moved them out. The time was the 1860s - Gil Favor and Rowdy Yates (played by a very young Clint Eastwood) moved cattle across the country, with episodes depicting the struggles and hardships they faced on their cattle drive. Gil was the trail boss, the supervisor of the entire cattle-drive operation. Rowdy was his right-hand man and second in command. Other regulars were the cooks (like Wishbone), drovers (notably Simon Blake and Hey Soos), and scouts who helped the cattle drive stay together. Clint Eastwood got his role in "Rawhide" (1959) while visiting a friend at the CBS lot when a studio exec spotted him because he "looked like a cowboy. ... (Clint Eastwood, who co-stars as Rowdy Yates. I was told that back in the day, critics said he wouldnt amount to anything. Guess he showed them.) Clint Eastwood ... أربيل (بالكردية: هولير، بالسريانية: ܐܪܒܝܠ) وهي مركز محافظة أربيل وعاصمة اقليم كردستان في شمال العراق. و ثالث أكبر مدينة في العراق بعد بغداد والموصل وتبعد عن مدينة بغداد حوالي 360 كيلومتر وتقع مدينة الموصل إلى الغرب من اربيل وتبعد عنها حوالي 80 كيلومتر وتبعد عن مدينة السليمانية حوالي 112 كيلو متر. تاريخ استيطان أربيل بالبشر يعود إلى القرن الثالث والعشرين قبل الميلاد. المدينة تعاقبت عليها سيطرة العديد من الإقليمية مثل الاشوريين، الفرس، الساسانيين، العرب والعثمانيين. اصل التسمية يعود أصل تسميتها إلى الاسم الآشوري للمدينة (أربائيلو) أي أربعة آلهة وهي كتابة عن المعابد الآشورية المهمة في اربيل وعاصرت المنطقة ملوكا وقادة كبار مثل الاسكندر الأكبر وصلاح الدين الأيوبي وكانت في العهد الآشوري مركزا رئيسيا لعبادة الآلهة عشتار وكان الآشوريين يقدسون أربيل ويحجوا إليها ملوكهم قبل الأقدام على أي حملة عسكرية وقد فتح المسلمون أربيل وما يجاورها في عهد الخليفة عمر بن الخطاب في سنة 32 هـ بقيادةعتبة بن فرقد ويوجد في اربيل أكثر من 110 تلا" وموقعا اثريا يرجع تاريخها من العصر الحجري وحتى العصر الإسلامي. فرە سامانێتی دەڤەرەکە، پەلاماری ھێرشەکانی سەرگۆنی ئەکەدی گەیشتوونەتە ھە‌ولێر و دەستی بەسەرداگیراوە. لەساڵانی (2150-2050پ.ز) بووە بە بنکەیەکی سەرەکی لە دەوڵەتی گووتییەکان کە لە نەتەوە دێرینەکانی زاگرۆسن. لە ساڵانی (2050-1950 پ.ز) کەوتۆتە ژێر دەسەڵاتی خانەوادەی سێھەمی ئیمپراتۆریەتی ئووری سۆمەرییەوە. لەساڵی (1600-پ.ز) و دواتر کەوتۆتە ژێر دەسەڵاتی کاشییەکانەوە، کە مەزەندە وایە لە ھۆزە دێرینەکانی کورد بووبن. ھاوکات دەوڵەتی ئاشووریش لە باکوور دامەزرا و چەند ھۆزێکی تری وەکومیتانی و خۆرییەکان دەسەڵاتیان لەو ناوەدا پەیدا کرد لە ناوچەکانی ئاشوور و ھەولێر و کەرکووک لە ژێر دەسەڵاتی دەوڵەتی میتانییەکاندا بوون. لە رۆژگاری فەرمانڕەوایی ئاشوورییەکانەوە لە (2500-612 پ.ز) ھەولێر لە ئەوپەڕی گەشەسەندن و پێشکەوتنی دابوو، ئەوکاتە پایتەختی ئایینی ئاشوورییەکان و تەختی خوداوەندی عەشتار (عەشتار ئەربیلا) پەرستگای ئاشوورییەکان بووە، ناوی ھەولێر لە نووسراوە مێخیەکانەوە بە شێوەی (ئی-کشان-کلاما) ھاتووە کە دەکاتە (ماڵی خانمەکەی ھەرێم) کە سەرچاوە و ھێمای سەرکەوتن بووە و (عەشتاری نەینەوا)ش خوداوەندی ئەڤین و رابواردن بووە. ساڵانی (705-681 پ.ز) , لە دوای سەرگونی ئەکەدی سەنحاریبی کوڕی بووە بە فەرمانڕەوا، ئەو پادشایە لە دووری (20) کیلۆمەترەوە لە رووباری بەستۆڕەوە ئاوى بۆ شارو قەڵای ھەولێر راکێشاوە، کە بە جۆگەی سەنحاریب ناسراوە و بۆ ئەو سەردەم کارێکی دەگمەن و مەزن بووە. ساڵی (612پ. ز) ئیمپراتۆریەتی میدیا دامەزرا و ھەولێریش کەوتە نێو ئەو ئیمپراتۆرییەتەوە و بووە بە بەشێک لە بنکە و ناوەندی دەسەڵاتی ئەو ئیمپراتۆرییە. دوای ئەمە ھەولێر بووە بە بەشێک لە دەوڵەتی ھەخامەنشی (ھەخا‌مەنی). لە ساڵی (331پ ز) و بە فەرماندەی ئەسکەندەری مەکدۆنی و لە شەڕی (ئەربیلا) ئیمپراتۆریەتی یۆنانی بەسەر ھەخامەنییەکان زاڵبوون و ھەولێر بووە بەشێک لە مولکەکانی ئەو ئیمپراتۆرییەتە‌. لە پاش مردنی ئەسکەندەر لە ساڵی (323-پ.ز) لە شاری بابل، ھەولێر (تێکڕای عێراق و سووریا)ش کەوتنە ژێر دەسەڵاتی (سلۆقس) کە یەکێک بووە لە فەرماندەکانی ئەسکەندەر، ئەم فەرمانڕەوایە ھەولێری زۆر ئاوەدانکردۆتەوە و خزمەتی کردووە. لە ساڵانی (148.پ.ز-226ز) فارسەکان توانیان بەسەر سلوقییەکاندا زاڵ بن کە بەر لەوکاتە حوکمڕانی ھەولێر بوون، ئەم و پیاوانی زانست و فەلسەفە و مێژووناسان و دەیان فێرگە و قوتابخانە و فەرمانگەی خزمەتگوزاری و چاودێری کۆمەڵایەتی لەو شارەدا کراوەتەوە, خزمەتێکی زۆری ھەولێر کراوە و ئەو پەڕی ئاوەدانی و پێشکەوتنی بەخۆوە بینیوە ,ھەولێر لەو رۆژگارەدا لە چەرخی زێڕینیدا بووە. دیاریترین شوێنەوارەکانی ئەو سەردەم منارەی چۆلی و قوتابخانەی موزەفەرییە و بازا‌رگاکانی قەیساریەی ھەولێرن. دوای وەفاتی سوڵتان موزەفەرەدین لەساڵی 1233 میرنشینی ھەولێر چووەوە ژێر سایەی خەلیفە موستەنسیر بیلالی عەباسی و لەساڵی 1235 لەشکرێکی بە فەرماندەیی (ئەبوفەزیل ئیقبالیشەڕابی) ناردە سەر ھەولێر و داگیری کرد. ھەولێر لە رۆژگاری موزەفەردەین و لە دوای وەفاتیشی دوچاری پەلاماری مەغۆلەکان بووە و خۆڕاگرانە لە بەرامبەر ئەو دوو پەلامارەدا خەڵکی ھەولێر وەستاون و داکۆکی جوامێرانەیان لە شارەکە کردووە و نەبەزیون، ھەر بۆیەش ھەولێر بە شاری ھۆلاکۆ بەزێن ناسراوە. دواتر لە دوای رووخانی دەوڵەتی عەباسی بەدەست مەغۆلەکانەوە، لە ساڵی (656ی کۆچی/ 1258 ئیتر ھەولێر کەوتە ژێر فەرمانڕەوای مەغۆلەکانەوە. لە ساڵی 1337 کەوتە ژێر دەسەڵاتی ئیلخانییەکانەوە دواتریش جەلائیریەکان. پاشان کەوتە ژێر رکێفی فەرمانڕەوایی دەوڵەتی بەرخە رەش وئینجا لە ساڵی (1410 کەوتە ژێر دەوڵەتی بەرخە سپی. ساڵی 1508 کەوتە ژێر دەسەڵاتی دەوڵەتی سەفەویەکان‌، تا شکانی سوپای فارس لە بەرامبەر ھێرشی سوپای سوڵتان سەلیمی دووەمی عوسمانلی. ساڵی 1514 لە دوای شەڕی چالدێران و سەرکەوتنی لەشکری سوڵتان سەلیمی دووەمی عوسمانلی، ھەولێر و ئینجا ھەموو عێراق کەوتە ژێر دەسەڵاتی دەوڵەتی عوسمانلییەوە. ئەم ھەرێمانە تاساڵی (1917 لەژێر دەسەڵاتی عوسمانلییەکان مانەوە، کەلە سەردەمی ئەواندا دان بە نیمچە سەربەخۆیی میرنشینەکانی کورد نرابوو، لەوانە میرنشینی سۆران لە ناوچەی ھەولێر، لە سەرەتای سەدەی نۆزدەھەم بەھێزترین و پێشکەوتووترینی میرنشینەکانی کورد بوو. لە دوای ھەڵگیرسانی جەنگی یەکەمی جیھانی و لەپاش پەیمانی سایکس-پیکۆ و لە بەھاری ساڵی (1916 بە فەرماندەیی لیوا (پاراشۆف) ھێزەکانی روسیای ھاوپەیمانی لە رێگەی خانەقین و ورمێ بە مەبەستی داگیرکردنی بەغدا رەواندزیان داگیر کرد. پاشان بەھۆی ھەڵگیرسانی شۆڕشی ئۆکتۆبەر لە روسیا لەو ھەرێمە کشانەوە. ساڵی (1918ی زایین) و لەدوای داگیرکردنی بەغدا لەلایەن I am so happy this boy is my friend. Honestly. We met up after I got off work this morning, and we went down to an art gallery called "The Rooms". We were only there for an hour (because it closed at 5:00) so we only got to look at the "art" section of it. There is so much more though, theatre, artifacts, all kinds of stuff. Its wicked. We will be going back there soon. After that we tried to find somewhere to eat. Not until the 7th restaurant did we find a good spot. Every place we went was just, not going to work. The first one, "65 - 75 minute wait", the second one cooked everything in the same deep fryer as the fish so that didnt work, then another place had dogs, and it was just crazy! The place we found after though was an Italian restaurant, and believe it or not, the place was so nice, the atmosphere was perfect... but there was only one thing. That was their last night open! After chatting for a while we went outside, went a little crazy, Ryan showed me secret spots around downtown I didnt know about and he brought me to Hava Java coffee shop (first time I have been there ever!) and made me a cup of coffee. I dont even like coffee. In fact, I hate coffee. This boy though, he made me a cup of coffee, and I drank it, I drank it all. It was actually good. Im still really surprised. Overall today was great. :D

They are filtered, contrast-enhanced photographs. GHOST is a narrative inspired by many stories, including Edgar Allen Poes "Ligeia," which contributes an important aspect to the collection: the aspect of the existence or non-existence of the "ghost" in a reality that is little more than a pipedream. Like Ligeia, it is difficult to tell whether GHOST is a story of a haunting or a hallucinatory opium-fantasy, which begins (for most) in black and white and transitions into bright or lurid colors. The idea for the practical means of accomplishing ghost--simple photography with shadow tricks and photoshop galore--arose from an ironic inspiration. I was initially inspired by traditional "ghosthunters" who go to cemeteries, photograph the curious darkness, and then enhance the photographs or film to find what was not visible to the naked eye. My goal was to create a very loose narrative that was captured via a new brand of "seeing." GHOST was shown in its entirety at Niagara Branch Library Auditorium in June of 2009.
