Il sito è la prova della più antica presenza umana nel delta del fiume Bou Regreg, lungo le cui rive Fenici e Cartaginesi stanziarono diverse basi. Occupa il sito della romana Sala, su una bassa collina coperta di vegetazione, rifugio delle cicogne nella stagione riproduttiva. Gli scavi hanno rivelato la presenza di un importante agglomerato e infatti Chella conserva le vestigia di una città romana, con i resti del Decumano Massimo, di un foro presso il quale si riconoscono le tracce della Curia, di una fontana monumentale e di un arco di trionfo. Il sito rimase poi in stato di abbandono per diversi secoli, fino a che i Merinidi lo scelsero per edificarvi la loro necropoli. Fu il sultano Abou el Hassan, il più grande della dinastia marinide, a costruire la maggior parte di ciò che rimane della necropoli Chellah. Circondata da una cinta di mura fortificate, ad essa si accede attraverso una porta monumentale, riccamente decorata e aperta ad arco acuto, ai cui lati sono poste due massicce torri merlate semi-ottogonali. Nella parte superiore del portale è presente un’iscrizione in caratteri cufici, dalla quale si apprende che la costruzione dello stesso fu intrapresa dal sultano Abu Said (1310-31) e terminata nel 1339 sotto il regno di Abu el-Hassan, il più grande sultano della sua dinastia. All’interno della necropoli si trovano alcune tombe di marabout e, presso una sorgente trasformata in fontana per abluzioni, la necropoli reale con la tomba di Abu el-Hassan , la cui stele, finemente decorata, è sovrastata da una tettoia a muqarnas. Nelle vicinanze sono presenti la moschea di Abu Yussef Yacub con un minareto decorato con maioliche policrome ora in rovina e una zaouia con un oratorio. Nella terrazza ai piedi del complesso si estende un incantevole giardino alimentato dalle acque della vicina sorgente Ayn Mdafa, che serpeggia nell’incavo della valletta. En las vecindades ahora están presentes la mezquita de Abu Yussef Yacub con un alminar decorado con mayólicas polícromas en ruina y un zaouia con un oratorio. En la terraza a los pies del complejo se extiende un encantador jardín alimentado por las aguas del cercano manantial Ayn Mdafa, que serpea en el hueco de la ayudanta.

Inspired by gems bookstacks set heres a picture of what I borrowed after my last visit to my local library. From top to bottom: Melissa Hill - The last to know I have no idea what this is about but I liked the cover plus it looked new-ish, so I took it. Stefan Merrill Block - The story of forgetting A story about early-onset Alzheimers doesnt sound like a happy read, but I quite enjoyed it. Parts of it reminded me of Jonathan Safran Foers second novel Extremely loud and incredibly close and Margaret Attwoods Blind assassin. Donna Tartt - The little friend Her second novel after The secret history and just as good. Im reading it at the moment and Ive been totally sucked in already. I cant believe shes only written those two novels so far - I WANT MORE! Stephenie Meyer - Twlight I wanted to know what all this fuss was about - and now I know. Its an okay-ish book, its a bit lengthy in places. I didnt leave me gasping for more, I read the summaries of the remaining three books on Wikipedia, that was enough. Not sure if I want to see the movie or not... Bill Bryson - Im a stranger here myself I dont think Ive read it but it might well be the same book that has been published in the UK as Notes from a big country. But even if it is, Ill gladly read it a second time. Three books about Patchwork and Quilting Im currently teaching my self the basics. Ive managed two blocks so far, a Nine Patch and a Log Cabin. Not as difficult as I thought they would be and certainly lots of fun. The thin yellow one in the middle, Schätze aus der Restekiste (Treasures from the scrap box), is the best, but I hesitate to buy it myself. It costs €22 (US$32) O_o
