Nick Savage, Dino HunterNick Savage is a dandy from Victorian London transported back in time to the Cretaceous period. The only way to survive in this harsh world is to hunt the giant lizards that are trying to eat him.

His sidekick/nemesis is Terrance the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Terrance is amused that the tiny flesh bag is trying to hunt his kind and enjoys causing trouble for Savage. For his part, Savage has sworn to kill all of the dinos he finds, but he also needs a friend. Besides, if he ever kills Terrance, the show will be over.

this photo was taken for the group SAVE POLAROID!

this is me, at a loss of words, after learning that Polaroid was shutting its doors on the production of all instamatic film. following this picture i frantically order 12 packs of 600 film - leaving me broke but happy....

unlike many of my fellow polaroid patrons i am new to this photographic format. as a graphics design junky i had always worked with digital. shame on me!

it wasnt until a few months ago when raymond molinar, friend and Polaroid guru, first introduced me to the elegance and simplicity of this medium. immediatly i fell in love with Polaroid and knew i had to become a part of this artistic community.

i know this may make me sound like a bit of a freak, but all the same it rings true to me: at times looking through the view finder of my sx 70 seems more meaningful than looking thorugh my own eyes. there is something nostalgic and wistfully sentimental about the 3.5 x 4.2 framing of a Polaroid picture... and dont even get me started on the developing process. watching an image develop in the short span of 2 mins is like witnessing a miracle take place, a moment in life being reborn, a supernatural event unfolding before my eyes.

it deeply saddens me to think about the possibility of this art form one day dying out, and i must admit that there have been times when i was tempted to cut down on my polaroid usage in order to preserve my rapidly deminishing stash of 600 film. but being artistically conservative is basically the antithesis of the Polaroid manifesto!

Edwin Land provided the world with the truest form of photography, one that mirrors life itself: instant, tangible, and un-edited.

LONG LIVE POLAROID!

***** so glad its been sudo saved :D *****

The Volvo Ocean Race: Round the WorldFormerly known as the Whitbread Round the World Race, the Volvo Ocean Race of 2001–2002 sent eight superfast sloops on an incredible round-the-world, round-the-clock race to the finish. Visitors to the National Geographic site experience and learn about the race in a variety of ways: Interactives, Geo Files, and Race Dispatches. The Interactives allow sailing enthusiasts to explore the anatomy of one of the VO Class 60 sloop boats or use a Sailing Simulator to test their skills against basic variables of wind and sail. The Geo Files teach visitors about the geography, climate, and marine environments that the boats encounter during the race. The Race Dispatches share insider stories from the race with correspondent Tracy Edwards, who joins various boats during the 9-month journey from September 2001 through June 2002. Modular sections allowed the site to be easily updated as the race progressed, with new Race Dispatches and Geo Files reflecting the current leg of the race.

Art College 1985This is me, being moody and that in 86. This looks like it may have been taken somewhere near the Norwich art school Garth studio. We drove round the country for two days looking at degree courses at Art colleges, Liverpool, Birmingham, Coventry, Chesterfield and Sheffield spring to mind. 6 people one Morris Minor van a flask of tea and some sleeping bags, The car broke down between Birmingham and Liverpool, I hastily joined the AA on the side of the road, who then instructed me on setting your points with a pack of Rizlas.

We got lost in Liverpool at 11.00 at night and got stopped by the police so many times I lost count, finally in desperation they escorted us to our destination, we all slept on a tutor called Dianes Living room floor in Lodge Lane in Toxteth, in a huge half derelict house full of car thieves and boxers (pugilists not the canine variety) who advised me to park the car with the back doors against a wall "to stop the other scallies" I felt oddly safe with them.

Just up the road from a burnt out garage and several upside down cars in the road, it was all very 1980s. Then we came home again. It was wasted youth on a wasted trip, as I dont think any of us got in... but it was fun as I remember it.

Tom Woods took this, he like me, ditched the painting eventually, he has just pointed out to me that we shared a space with Glen Brown, and Ive only just realised hes the one that got away, making it in the world of pallettes and oils, now exhibiting with Saatchi etc. Im just glad someone managed it.

Geo W Hay Farm, Goshen, IN - 1980This picture was taken by my friend, Ron Martin, who lived in the house back in the Seventies. He sent it to me last week and I was thrilled to get it as this place was our next door neighbor for many years and is now gone. As picturesque as it was I never bothered to take any pictures of it since it was right down the road, I could see it any day. This picture is taken from a slide that Ron took after a storm when there was a rainbow down the road, hence the other worldly light!

The information I have about the farm was that it was originally built just west of this location as far back as the 1840s. It was moved to this location by George W Hay with the idea of building a new place on the old site. The new place never materialized in his time but now has a house on it.

With such a long history, Im sure there are many stories that could be told about this place. I will tell what I know. Ron and his wife Geneva lived here from 1976 to 1980 and their son Lief was born here. I moved into the neighboring farm in the fall of 1980 when this was taken, just as they were moving out. I do remember visiting them there sometime when Lief was a baby, which made a big impression on me as they had him in a box by the wood stove to keep warm.

In the early Eighties, when I was renting down the road with two college friends, Jay Troyer and Rod Fretz, another friend of ours, Randy Miller, was living here. We were all "roughing it" and I recall Randy had constructed a tent in one room out of plastic to keep warm (these places were hard to heat) I used to find him in his big tent with the kerosene heater going, sitting at his typewriter composing a novel.

In 1984 the property sold to a local farmer, Carl Martin. He rented out the house and farmed the land with his two sons. The Hay family at this time owned five adjoining farms including this one, the one I live at, and three more. The three farms on our side of the road were put up for sale but only this one sold. In 1991 this farmhouse was dismantled and rebuilt in Middlebury where it became a bed and breakfast. The construction was solid log, as the following photos will show. The beautiful cupola on the barn was in sad shape by then and was pulled off the barn. I was able to salvage parts of it which are out in my barn now. Eventually, the barn itself was moved across the field where I think it is still being used. The Martins built a new house and barn in place of these and Carls son Kevin lived here with his family until the place was again sold.

Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich

- Lobster, Smoked Cheddar, Seaside English Cheddar, Granny Apples, Breadsmith Country White Bread

Before anything, I would like to thank lovely and talented thewanderingeater as much for her photography and her fantastic blog, as for challenging my creativity and inspiration to make this relatively simple dish.

You may remember Lobster Thermidor Grilled Cheese picture and review thewanderingeater posted just a few days ago - I was quite intrigued ...

Simplicity in this case is primarily, if not exclusively, about the preparation of the sandwich itself, but hardly about anything else on the plate. I bought a live lobster, quickly steeped the tail in court-boullion, reserving the claws for a different dish. Lobster medallions were then fanned over Country White bread by Breadsmith , covered with shredded Seaside English Cheddar and Smoked Cheddar, and covered with Granny Apple 0.5 mm slices. The outside of the sandwich was brushed with Plugra butter and grilled on a non-stick griddle.

I loved the medley of flavors and textures, but especially the tenderness and sweetness of lobster tail cooked by melting cheese.
